Arbutus Technical Consulting

Bruce Elliott, Principal Consultant

Bruce Elliott

Bruce has proven that he can make a positive difference to multidisciplinary engineering projects.

He has a sound mathematical grounding and is an experienced systems and systems safety engineer with domain knowledge in rail and air traffic services.

He has defined effective engineering processes, including Atkins Rail's systems engineering manual, and achieved the necessary consensus among stakeholders to put these processes into practice. Through his leading role in developing the Yellow Book - the UK railway's handbook of engineering safety management - he has made a significant, personal contribution to improving practice across a whole industry.

He remains committed to working collaboratively to advance engineering practice, which he does in part through PhD research at the University of Birmingham and active membership of the International Council on Systems Engineering.

He is an accomplished communicator and has prepared and delivered a wide range of training courses.

He is capable of trailblazing - providing the personal leadership to put process improvement into action.

Caroline Elliott, Business Manager

Caroline Elliott

Caroline trained and started her career as a management accountant. She has prepared accounts for technology projects and prepared requirements for a project to implement an enterprise management system.

Her experience (which includes winding up a failed technology company) has convinced her that the cultural divide between engineers and accountants ("boffins" versus "bean counters") is a dangerous distraction from the imperative to adopt a rational, numerate approach to both technology and business.

Caroline brings a rational, numerate approach to Arbutus Technical Consulting's business and to the business aspects of our services.
